| As part of the Knox College benefits package, you have a standing invitation to participate in a wealth of wellness opportunities, most of which take place on campus.
In the area of screenings, here is a sampling of what Knox Wellness has to offer you:
-
Mammograms (conducted at Galesburg Cottage Hospital) are held in May and August.
-
In October we host a Wellness Fair. Screenings at this event may include cholesterol, blood sugar and heel bone density.
-
A PSA/prostate screening is held in November.
-
Flu shots are offered on campus in the late fall.
These services are on a co-pay system (with the exception of the Wellness Fair), with the wellness program paying a portion of the service. The mammogram and PSA/prostate screenings are also offered to spouses of Knox employees. Flu shots are limited to faculty, staff and students.
Throughout the academic year, there are "Think Wellness, Thursday" lunch and learns. Speakers with expertise on a variety of health and wellness topics provide a presentation during the lunch hour (12 noon to 1:00 p.m.). It is a casual, enjoyable way to gather valuable information, discuss issues, and meet fellow faculty and staff. Schedules are distributed via campus mail at the beginning of fall term.
Have you always wanted to try a yoga class? Noon fitness classes in yoga, strength, Pilates, and cardio take place throughout the year in the fieldhouse. There is no cost to you, except a little time and effort. The payoffs are great! A weight/cardio room in the lower level of Memorial Gym offers free weights, Nautilus and cardio equipment. Lockers are available by contacting Kim Schrader at 309-341-7281 on a first come, first serve basis.
If you have any questions regarding the Knox Wellness Program, please call Marcy Simkins, Wellness Coordinator, at 309-341-7121. Her hours are 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
