Knox Winter Jazz Series to Feature Public Concert and Workshop

Members of the Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble perform at the Knox Rootabaga Jazz Festival 2014.

The Knox College Winter Jazz Series presents the Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble in a free, public concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, in Kresge Recital Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts.

Featuring musicians from Chicago's diverse jazz community, the Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble (CALJE) fuses African and Latin American influences. Founded in 2006 by Nicaraguan pianist/composer Darwin Noguera and Mexican trumpeter/composer Victor Garcia, CALJE has performed worldwide, and its members have shared the stage with world headliners, including Ella Fitzgerald, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Chick Corea, The Temptations, Paquito D'Rivera, and Danilo Perez.

The group was one of the featured guest performers at Knox's Rootabaga Jazz Festival in 2014.

In addition to the free concert, CALJE will hold a free, public workshop at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, in Jay Rehearsal Hall on the Knox campus.

The Knox Winter Jazz Series showcases global artists with diverse cultural perspectives for free concerts, workshops and one-on-one experiential programming with Knox students and the Galesburg community. The Knox Winter Jazz Series is part of Jazz Year, which also features the Jerome Mirza Jazz Residency and Rootabaga Jazz Festival.
