Knox Admission Counselors Dish Best College Application Tips

It’s officially college application season, so we asked the Knox College admissions counselors team to dish their best college admissions advice before you apply to Knox.

Get to Know Knox College

While you’ll learn all about Knox throughout your application process, it’s still important to get a feel for Knox before you begin. “I think the best thing you can do when you're applying to Knox is to look at our website and visit campus. We want you to make sure that you know what's going on and what we offer here at Knox College,” explains Director of International Admissions Greer Henderson.

With over 60+ majors and minors, we want you to get excited about what being a student at Knox would mean for your future career.

When to Apply and How to Prepare

“As soon as you’re ready! The earlier you apply, the earlier we can help you through the process,” according to Director of Transfer & Transitions Keegan White.

When you’re ready to apply, Senior Associate Director of Admissions Tyler Podwojski emphasizes having all your application materials prepared. “You need the official application, whether it's the Common App or the Knox College application, and your official transcripts submitted from your high school registrar or counselor.”

You can also submit test scores or a letter of recommendation, but including these two items with your application is optional when applying to Knox.

What About the College Essay?

This is our favorite part of your application!

“At Knox, we really want you to be yourself, and I think a great way to show that is through your personal essay,” shares International Admissions Counselor Carson Lilley.

Your college essay is your chance to share things about yourself that aren’t necessarily reflected through your high school extracurriculars and grades. “Be braggadocious. Tell me everything. Tell me the things about you that feel cringe, because these things are still academic,” encourages Assistant Director of Chicago Recruitment Kyran Blissett.

“This is your chance to tell us about yourself, not to tell us what you think you want us to hear,” adds Director of Denver Recruitment Hannah Murphy.

Figuring out exactly what you want to say about yourself in your college application can be challenging, but Director of Regional Recruitment Sarah Colangelo doesn’t want you to worry.

I always tell folks who are applying to Knox that your life doesn't have to make narrative sense. You're writing your college essay and piecing together your application to say all of these wonderful things about yourself and who you are, but you can allow yourself not to know. Allow yourself to grow. Allow yourself to change when you're applying to college and when you get to college.”

Submit Your Knox Application and Celebrate!

The hard part is over! You can explore more of Knox through social media or our virtual tour while you wait to hear back about your application. If you’re able to, Director of Texas Recruitment Toni Chandler wants you to visit because “when you are actually walking on the campus, you will get a better idea of the spaces and people that make Knox special.”

International Admissions Counselor Shadeed Khan encourages you to “ask all the questions that you have,” throughout the entire process.
