Application FAQ

If you make it through this FAQ and still have questions, don't worry! We're here for you!

Knox College seeks students who are bright, intellectually curious, and active participants. People like you, with curious minds, have a funny way of uncovering the unexpected in and out of the classroom. An open mind opens doors.

At Knox, you'll never be just a number—a class rank, a GPA, or a test score. We will get to know you because we want to make sure our community will open doors for your future in the very best ways.

A superscore combines a student's highest section scores from multiple administrations of the SAT or ACT to create a new, potentially higher overall score. Yes, Knox does superscore.

Coursework: Knox considers the difficulty and types of courses taken, with a preference for honors, AP, and IB courses.

Grades: We look for consistent high grades, reflecting a strong academic record.

Test Scores:  If you choose to submit them, Knox reviews SAT and ACT scores as a reflection of your potential. See our test optional policy.

Knox values extracurriculars. Often, they allow students to apply academic skills and knowledge in practical settings. Plus, they’re usually a lot of fun! At Knox, your education will get you not just a degree but an experience! We appreciate students dedicated to experiences in and out of the classroom. We look for quality over quantity and appreciate how your extracurriculars invite us to get to know you better.

Demonstrated interest refers to actions a prospective student takes to show their interest in a college, such as visiting the campus, attending events, or contacting the admissions office.

Like anyone, we like knowing you like us. Letting us know you like us is a good thing.

Knox admission counselors consider demonstrated interest as one factor among many when evaluating applications. They look for students who are actively involved in their learning and demonstrate a genuine interest in the college's academic environment.

Knox has no application fee. So, there should be no fees associated with your application for admission.

Once you’ve submitted your application, you can’t make any edits. If you need to make a change to something like your essay or activity list, please email admission@knox.edu with the updated information, and it’ll be added to your file.

You will get an email from Knox confirming we have received your application. In addition, you will receive your credentials to log in to your applicant portal. In your applicant portal, you will be able to see a checklist of required application materials. If any of those materials are missing, we provide further information on how you are able to ensure they are submitted.

Recommendation: Approach the college application process in an organized manner and give plenty of notice to the people submitting items on your behalf (e.g. counselors with high school transcripts, teachers with recommendations, etc.).

Your online portal is accessible here: Knox Student Portal
You will need to know your email address and password.

Knox loves to be able to reward you for college credit you’ve already earned. While not required for admission, coursework may be submitted for advanced course standing and/or credit upon enrollment at Knox. Find out more in our Course Catalog.

We do not have a minimum GPA as every application is reviewed so we can take the whole person into consideration. While your GPA may indicate how you will do at Knox, the rigor of your courses is equally important.

The middle 50% of students admitted to Knox generally have a high school GPA between 3.5-3.7.

While Knox is test optional, the middle 50% that choose to submit test scores typically range 22-32 for ACT and/or 1195-1368 on SAT

Applicants should  prepare to get the most out of a Knox education. We encourage you to take full advantage of opportunities available at your high school and to challenge yourself academically, which could include taking honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses when available. Successful applicants for admission will have completed at least:

4 years of English
3-4 years of math
3-4 years of science
3-4 years of social studies
2-4 years of a foreign language

The submission of ACT or SAT scores is optional for most applicants.

You can decide for yourself if your scores adequately reflect your abilities and potential for success in college. If you elect to provide your scores, they will be considered and can sometimes help us in assessing your abilities more fully. Scores can be submitted either directly from the testing agency or on your official secondary school transcript.

Home schooled students and students attending secondary schools that do not provide grades must submit ACT or SAT scores.

If you believe your test scores accurately reflect your abilities and academic potential, it can be beneficial to submit them. However, if you're unsure or your scores don't represent your strengths well, it's also perfectly acceptable to opt out.

Scores can be submitted either directly from the testing agency or on your official secondary school transcript. Knox’s College Board Code for submission of SAT scores is 1372. For ACT, our College Code is 1052.

No, you will not be at a significant disadvantage if you choose not to submit your ACT or SAT scores. If you choose not to submit scores, the admissions committee will evaluate your application based on other factors like your GPA, course rigor, letters of recommendation, essays, and extracurricular activities.
