Tighe Burke named the 2008 NCAA Division III statistical champion for pass sacks

Defensive end closes season with 14 total sacks

Tighe BurkeThe post-season awards keep coming for Tighe Burke: a week after being named to the third team of the AP Little All America team, Burke was officially named the Division III statistical champion for Pass Sacks for the 2008 season.

Burke had 14 sacks throughout the season, with an average of 1.35 sacks per game. The 1.35 sacks per game ranked him third in sacks per game, and his 14 total sacks put him at number one in all of Division III. It has been five years since Seth Kopf '03 led NCAA Division III in interceptions with 11 that a Prairie Fire football player has led Division III in any one statistical category.

Burke will be honored, along with the Knox baseball team and the Knox Men's Golf team, during basketball homecoming on February 7, 2009. The women's basketball team will play Lawrence University at 2 p.m. with the ceremony following the women's game, before the start of the 4 p.m. men's basketball game.
