Support Can Mean Different Things to Different People

Knox College is committed to providing survivors of sexual misconduct with options and a variety of supportive resources, including WIRC, the Knox College Health and Counseling Center, RAINN, Safe Harbor, and Family Planning. Confidential resources are not required to disclose to anyone else the information you share with them, unless that information involves the abuse of a minor or vulnerable adult, or an imminent threat to someone’s life. Confidential resources may report aggregate numbers of reported incidents to the Title IX Coordinator in compliance with state and federal laws. However, no identifying information is provided in those reports.

Anyone who has experienced discrimination, harassment, or misconduct is strongly encouraged to report to the College in order to receive support and assistance. If you are not sure that you want to report to the college, or if you want assistance in doing so, you are encouraged to contact a confidential resource first.

Knox's Confidential Advisor

A Confidential Advisor is someone who is trained on state law, campus policy and procedures, and trauma-informed advocacy and support methods for survivors of sexual misconduct. Just like confidential resources, confidential advisors are not required to disclose to anyone else the information you share with them, unless that information involves the abuse of a minor or vulnerable adult, or an imminent threat to someone’s life. The Confidential Advisor may report aggregate numbers of reported incidents to the Title IX Coordinator in compliance with state and federal laws. However, no identifying information is provided in those reports.

Knox's Confidential Advisor is specifically trained in helping survivors navigate options around sexual misconduct concerns.

Western Illinois Regional Council Victim Services

A Victim Services Advocate from Western Illinois Regional Council (WIRC) Victim Services, a community action agency, can be reached through a 24-hour crisis line. The Advocate can meet a survivor victim at the hospital to serve as a no cost personal link between the hospital, local law enforcement, and their legal advocacy staff. This person can help a victim survivor understand the choices and rights afforded to them during the medical examination and beyond, as both a medical and legal advocate. These services are free to the victim survivor.

Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN)

The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) has trained volunteers on duty and available to help survivor victims at crisis centers across the country. These services are offered at no charge to the victim survivor.
