How have you seen your work impact people?

Spanish clients feel comfortable when they know you can communicate clearly with them. They have someone who can hold their hand through the process. So many clients see things online and in the news, and they’re scared. A big part of the job is to reassure them and present facts. We’re here to support and guide them through what can be a difficult and scary process.

How has your minor helped you?

It helped me get an internship at school, and I already had a job offer lined up out of college. The class gave me a purpose, and Szold Distinguished Service Professor of Modernt Languages Robin Ragan was a huge guide. She introduced me to my mentor (Carolyn O’Connor at Esperanza Legal Assistance Center in the Quad Cities), who has also supported me. Getting out of college is scary, but Knox prepared me for it.
