We recognize your need for support and are here for you. We will be providing education geared towards your needs via email, as well as our Facebook page, Instagram, and student resource section on our website.
Our staff and peer educators are available to provide outreach programs on a wide variety of topics to the Knox community. To request an outreach event for your group, organization, or department, fill out our Outreach Request Form. Please allow at least two weeks' notice for your event.
In May of 2023, the Surgeon General released a new Advisory calling attention to the "epidemic" of loneliness and isolation. This term, Counseling Services will be following the National Strategy to Advance Social Connection framework for our outreach and programming events.
In lieu of groups during Winter Term, we will be offering a Workshop Series with different topics grounded in social connectedness and community.
Weekly Wellness Topics
Be sure to check your emails each week to find out our topic! A topic will be introduced each week via a Smore / emailed newsletter that will provide education and resources. Additionally, each day of the week, we will post information surrounding that topic via social media. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram as there will be opportunities for free swag and prizes!
5 for 5 Connection Challenge - Tuesday, 1/16 & Wednesday, 1/17 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm in Seymour Gallery
Make connections with others by taking the 5-for-5 Connection Challenge as a way to build and strengthen your own relationships and inspire others to incorporate connections in their daily lives. Come see Knox Counseling Services Peer Educators for more information and get your postcard for a chance to win a prize at the end of the term!
Finding Your Get Up & Go - Thursday, 1/18 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm in Ferris Lounge
Join guest speaker, Tessa Hobbs-Curley, as she talks about and provides motivational tips! Most people find that there are some days when it’s hard to find the motivation to accomplish what needs to be done, even the things that are important. Learning what accounts for the ebb and flow of levels of motivation in life and how to respond can help individuals be more productive. This workshop is for those times when it just seems hard to “get going.”
Addictionovation: Breaking Free with a Splash of Sass - Monday, 1/22 from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm in Ferris Lounge
Join us as speakers from Galesburg's local ROSC (Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care) organization, Leann Courson and Jeff McFadden. They will share their stories of addiction to recovery to their efforts in creating a community of support and eliminating the stigma surrounding addiction and recovery. Further, have a little fun and try your hand at playing Mario Kart with the "drunk goggles" on to understand how intoxication impacts your abilities!
Stand Strong & Speak Up: Confronting Bullying Together - Tuesday, 1/30 from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm in Ferris Lounge
In a world where connectivity and communication are essential, it's crucial to address bullying that continues to affect individuals across various age groups and settings. Join us as guest speaker, Mariah Huston from Victim Services aims to shed light on the different forms of bullying, its impact on mental health, and strategies for prevention and intervention.

Breaking Barriers: Your Wellness as an African or Black Student - Tuesday, 2/13 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm in Ferris Lounge
We are collaborating with Harambe to have open dialogues with an African or Black individual regarding mental health, self-care, wellness, and how to manage stressors. While this will be a student-focused dialogue, a counselor will be present to answer questions about taking care of yourself as well as what supports are available.

Don't Go It Alone! - Tuesday, 2/20 from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm in Ferris Lounge
Research increasingly shows that social isolation and loneliness can deeply impact our quality of life. Join Tessa Hobbs-Curley, Family Life Educator, for this workshop that will help students define the difference between social isolation and loneliness and identify risk factors and strategies for both.
