April Is Diversity Art Month at Knox

Diversity Art Month

The Knox College community is celebrating Diversity Art Month, an artistic exploration of identities and experiences, throughout April with several events focusing on the theme of "The Art of Intersectionality."

Organized by the Student Senate Diversty Committee, Diversity Art Month encourages members of the Knox community to explore various identities and experiences through art, music, dance, poetry, and film.

Diversity Art Month also serves as a fundraiser for Asha for Life, a fundraising organization located in Galesburg dedicated to combating human trafficking and sexual slavery.

Events include: 

Tuesday, April 7 -- Asha For Life Presentation and Fundraiser Kickoff from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Ferris Lounge.

Asha for Life CEO Tom Colclasure and Vice President Harsha Mehta M.D. will be on the Knox campus on Tuesday, April 7. They will give a presentation and meet with small groups to continue brainstorming ways in which the Galesburg and Knox community can remain active with the organization.

Friday, April 10 -- Identities in Motion from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Kresge Hall.

Monday, April 13 -- Color of Violence Presentation from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Ferris Lounge.

Several Knox students will present what they learned from the Incite! Color of Violence 4 workshop conference and will conduct brief workshops with the audience to work on continuous engagement within our own community. The conference covered topics ranging from stopping violence in various communities to grassroots organizing and holding critical conversations.

Thursday, April 16 -- Poetry and Popcorn from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. in the Gizmo.

In collaboration with National Poetry Month, poets are invited to recite their poems; organic popcorn will be provided by K.A.R.E.S.

Friday, April 17 -- Stargazing and Movie Night. Time TBA in Kresge Recital Hall.

Friday, April 24 -- Music & Coffee from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in the Gizmo.

Saturday, April 25 -- Engage Knox: Spring Day of Service from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Knox Campus and throughout the Galesburg community
Engage Knox is a campus-wide event sponsored by the Kleine Center for Community Service and Student Senate.

Sunday, April 26 -- Art Gallery Opening and Walk from 11 a.m. to- 1:30 p.m. in the CFA Lobby.

The ​Student Senate Diversity Committee , in collaboration with the Department of Art and Art History,​ is ​sponsoring an exhibit of art works exploring ​themes of identity and intersectionality. The exhibit will open in the CFA gallery on April 26. Knox artists who would like to submit relevant works should bring them to the CFA Gallery with an attached entry form between April 21 and April 24. ​The entry form is available online at http://goo.gl/forms/z5RyiUTYfv.
