Knox College Ranked Among Top 100 Colleges in Kiplinger's

Knox College is again ranked among the nation's top 100 liberal arts college values by Kiplinger's Personal Finance. The magazine ranks Knox 66th among the top 100 liberal arts colleges. Recently released on the Kiplinger's website, www.kiplinger.com, the 2010-2011 rankings will be published in the December 2010 issue of the print magazine.

"Students want, and Knox delivers, outstanding educational quality at a reasonable cost," said Paul Steenis, vice president for enrollment and dean of admission.

"Kiplinger's rankings focus on the academic strength of Knox students and their access to a faculty of teacher-scholars. Those educational advantages are paired with financial aid and scholarship awards that put Knox within reach of students and their families," Steenis said.

The rankings require that school "meet our criteria for academic quality and affordability," wrote Jane Bennett Clark, Senior Associate Editor, Kiplinger's Personal Finance.

"We start with data on more than 600 private institutions and sort the schools first based on quality measures, such as the admission rate, the test scores of incoming freshmen, and four- and five-year graduation rates," Clark wrote. "We then add cost data, including tuition, fees, room and board and financial aid, and re-rank the institutions accordingly. It is this combination of quality and affordability -- certainly not any desire on our part to exclude a particular school or state -- that determines which schools make our lists for best value.."

Knox College is nationally ranked by major college guidebooks, including Forbes, the Fiske Guide to Colleges, U.S. News & World Report, Washington Monthly and Princeton Review. Knox is also one of a select group of 40 colleges recognized in Loren Pope's renowned book "Colleges That Change Lives."
