International Smart Start Session

Session recording:
Passcode: fXXQV2?q

This Smart Start session focuses on international students and prepares them for Summer Advising sessions, which take place July 17-29. This session does not repeat the "Pre-Departure Q&A" session previously offered, but, rather, it complements that session with additional information important for students to know as they begin their advising sessions.

What is Smart Start?

Smart Start prepares you to launch into Summer Advising, which begins July 17-29. Sure, there is a lot to learn about Knox, but Smart Start will ease you into it. On Friday, July 14, 2023, and Saturday, July 15, 2023, all new students must attend informational sessions, either online or in person, to help them prepare to meet their academic advisors in the following weeks. You can sign up for your Smart Start Session here.

  • For international students, Alex Pia will offer a Zoom session from 8:00 am to 10:00 am CST on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.  He will be joined by a representative from the Office of Student Development and Academic Affairs.
  • For students who are able to travel to campus, two sessions will be offered from 1:30 to 4:30 Friday afternoon or 9:00 to noon on Saturday morning.
  • For students unable to make it to campus, Zoom sessions will be offered from 9:00 to 12:00 on Friday morning and Saturday afternoon from 1:30 to 4:30

Informational sessions will provide an overview of what academic advising is and help you navigate all of the options in front of you. Sessions will include opportunities to learn about:

  • What is Academic Advising?
  • Pre-Professional Programs: Law, Health, Engineering
  • Course Preferences for Fall Term
  • Arrival in Fall and New Student Orientation
  • Financial Aid
  • Student Support Services
  • Academic Success Programs
  • What is Immersive Learning and How it is funded
  • On-campus Employment

Smart Start will explain how to prepare for your summer advising meetings and assist you in crafting a course preference plan before you meet with your academic advisor for Fall registration. For first-year students, your one-on-one meetings with your advisor will happen sometime between Monday, July 17th, and Friday, July 28th.
