3 Ways to Experience Your Education

1. Use Spanish to explore bigger issues.

Many of our majors—and minors—pursue College Honors or other research and creative projects. Some even present or perform their work at national and international conferences. Here are a few recent projects:

  • "Second-Language Learning Motivations Among Knox College Students." Kathryn Todd '15.
  • "Affective and Phonological Impediments to Communication between Francophones from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Native English Speakers." Lyana Sun Han Chang '15.
  • "Cambios de la identidad como resultado de Study Abroad: Un estudio en la adquisición de hábitos y valores de culturas diferentes." Anna Victoria Roser ‘14 (Honors).

2. Explore the culture on a whole new level.

There are several opportunities for students studying Spanish who wish to study abroad. You can homestay with a native Spanish-speaking family and explore issues on Bilingualism during the Knox in Barcelona program, study social justice issues in the environment during the Knox in Buenos Aires program, or conduct your own independent research project while participating in the Costa Rica: Field Research In The Environment, Social Sciences, And Humanities program.

Here are a few more opportunities for students wishing to study abroad:

3. Prepare for life after Knox with an internship.

There's no better way to explore the possibilities of life after Knox than internships. Here are a few of our students' recent internships (found with the assistance from the Bastian Family Career Center):

  • Ben Franklin School, Barcelona, Spain.
  • Green Peace, Barcelona, Spain.
  • El CEIBO recycling coop, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
  • The Garden School Foundation, Los Angeles, California. Yaoska Mayorga '17.
  • Citizenship Program Intern, International Institute of St. Louis, St. Louis, Missouri. Elizabeth Wisdom '16.
