Earth Week 2015 Schedule of Campus Events

The EquiKnox Lecture, a barn dance, and other activities are planned for the Knox community, and an Earth Day Festival on April 18 is open to the public.

Earth Week 2015 is being observed on the Knox College campus with a series of events including the Spring EquiKnox Lecture, a barn dance, and other activities for the Knox community organized by Knox Advocates for Recycling and Environmental Support (KARES).

An Earth Day Festival, open to members of the Knox community and the Galesburg-area community, will be Saturday, April 18.

Here is the Earth Week schedule:

Sunday, April 12 -- Bus trips to Green Oaks Biological Field Station.

Monday, April 13 -- Dr. Beverly Wright presents the Spring EquiKnox Lecture at 7 p.m. in Kresge Recital Hall, hosted by the Knox College Office of Sustainability.

She will speak about environmental racism, from the perspective of her work with displaced families in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. She is founder of the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice, and her work focuses on policy, community outreach, assistance, and education of displaced African American residents of New Orleans

Tuesday, April 14 -- Deodorant-Making Workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. at Wilson House.

Wednesday, April 15 -- Inspirational speaker and photojournalist Mark Hirsch presents the 2015 Joe Morgan Lecture, "That Tree: An Unintended Adventure," at 7 p.m. in Kresge Recital Hall. Open to the public.

Wednesday, April 15 -- Bat Observation at 7:30 p.m. at the Human Rights Center.

Thursday, April 16 -- Poetry and Popcorn at 5 p.m. at the Gizmo.

Friday, April 17 -- Knox Farm Workday at 4 p.m.

Saturday, April 18 -- Earth Day Festival at 1 p.m. on the Old Main Lawn.

Sunday, April 19 -- Barn Dance from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the Gizmo Patio. Rain location: the Oak Room. The caller will be Martha Tyner, and live music will be provided by the Knox student-faculty folk ensemble, the Prairie Fireflies. All dances will be taught. No partner or experience necessary.

Wednesday, April 22 (Earth Day) -- Wall-E movie at 8 p.m. in Kresge Recital Hall.
