Reese Miller

Senior Reese Miller is on track to enter law school by the time he graduates in the spring. Having applied to several schools on the east and west coasts, including Northeastern University, Loyola Marymount University, and Washington University, Miller is excited to delve into the legal system—something he grew to admire through his time at Knox. 

Fostering learning both in the classroom and through experiential learning, Miller realized that he wanted to be a part of the policy-making process. He undertook an internship in Washington, D.C. during his second year at Knox, while studying off-campus at American University. Spending two days in class and three days with an internship, Miller was responsible for his own schedule.

During his internship, he worked with former Congresswoman Michelle Steel, and Miller had the chance to help develop policies being created by her team. “I worked with some of the most thoughtful, passionate people, and it felt like the things we worked on actually made a difference,” he said. “We had a real thing.” 

His experience came full circle the following summer, as Miller witnessed the same policies he was considering at the internship being put into play through his role at a different internship, working with Contemporary Farmer Inc., a not-for-profit in Chicago, through Knox’s Chicago Term. Associate Professors of Political Science Thomas Bell and Andrew Civettini led the term, and Miller developed a strong relationship with them, something he believes he achieved through Knox’s small size and the interest professors take in students’ lives. 

At Knox, Miller also plays football, serving as captain as a junior.

“It was an eye-opening experience,” he noted, “seeing the struggles and taking responsibility for the good and the bad.” In addition, Miller works with the Admissions office, where he started as a tour guide before making his way, to visit coordinator, managing schedules and ensuring smooth operations.
