The President's Council on Sustainability is tasked with nurturing a culture of sustainability at Knox. Its charge is to identify, support, promote, and communicate new and ongoing campus sustainability initiatives. The Council will consider sustainability initiatives presented by members of the Knox community and, in addition, as issues and opportunities arise throughout the year, will make recommendations on items pertaining to sustainability. Liaisons approve the theme of EquiKnox events and the choice of presenter(s). The Council also reviews and monitors current sustainability commitments, progress reports, and compacts to ensure that the campus is meeting its commitments and targets.
Meetings are chaired by the Director of Sustainability Initiatives and the core of the Council is comprised of eleven Liaisons representing various campus constituencies. Each Liaison is expected to attend meetings and bring news and ideas back and forth between their constituency and the Council. Meetings are held weekly throughout the academic year and any member of the Knox community is welcome to attend a meeting and join the conversation.
The Sustainability Council is currently working to achieve a set of goals coined "Knox 2018". This list of goals and accompanying implementation strategies provide advice on how to promote a culture of sustainability on campus and specifically to help meet goal #3 of the Knox 2018 Strategic Plan. Specifically: "Create a contemporary, sustainable, and accessible Knox campus... " and "Ensure the long-term ability for campus operations and infrastructure to adapt to a changing environment and the associated resource availability concerns."
