Your Housing Priority Number

Flowers bloom in the Prairie Plot on campus.

It's a simple equation: Priority Category + Random Number = Priority Number

Complete a housing application by April 9, 2017, to receive a priority number.

Part 1: Priority Category

Your placement in a lottery category is based on your expected date of graduation. This is determined by looking at your progress toward a Knox degree.

  • Students who will graduate any time during the 2017-2018 academic year (current juniors) are in category 3.
  • Students who will graduate any time during the 2018-2019 academic year (current sophomores) are in category 2.
  • Students who will graduate any time during the 2019-2020 academic year (current first-years) are in category 1.

Part 2: Random Number

Your random number is a computer-generated decimal that determines your placement within your lottery category. Random numbers cannot be altered once they are created. Students with the best random numbers receive the best (lowest) lottery numbers in their category. Category 3 students receive the lowest lottery numbers (generally 1-250), and Category 1 the highest (450+).

To ensure accuracy, the generation of lottery numbers follows this process:

  • April 9: Last day to submit a housing application to receive a lottery number
  • April 10: Priority numbers issued.

Remember: Your lottery number affects most of your possible housing options, such as Singles, Small Houses, Apartments, Block Housing, and General Lottery. The selection processes for Theme Houses, Greek Houses, International House, Casa Latina, Asian Cultural, and ABLE don't have anything to do with your lottery number.
