The information below will help you get your computer ready for your arrival. Once you're on campus, the Information Technology Services Help Desk staff will be available to assist you with any configuration and troubleshooting.
1. Check Your Hardware
Your computer must meet certain minimum requirements to connect to the Knox Network. It is imperative you follow these instructions to ensure connectivity to the Knox Network once you arrive.
All access to the Knox network is via wireless connections. Your computer must be equipped with the proper wireless network card. In addition, all devices must connect directly to the wireless network -- they cannot connect via a router or other access point.
2. Check Your System
You can now check your computer remotely to see if it meets requirements for connecting to the Knox network when you arrive.
3. Reset Your Password
To maintain security for your log-ins and network services, you need to change your password.
Now you are ready to change your password.
NOTE: should you forget your password you will need to visit the Help Desk in person, with your Knox ID in hand. We do NOT reset passwords via telephone or e-mail requests. There may be exceptions if you are off campus.
4. Update Your Anti-Virus Software
Knox College has implemented an anti-virus system utilizing Sophos. This software is provided free of charge to all Knox students. You must also remove any currently installed anti-virus software - this includes any trial versions accompanying new computers. If you do not install Sophos, you will not be able to connect to the network.
5. Update Your System Software
All computers connected to the Knox network must be kept current with all operating system updates to ensure maximum stability and security.
1. Access and Register
Configure Wireless Connection
After following all of the above steps, you're ready to log on to the Knox College computer network. First you'll need to configure your computer to access the network via a wireless connection.
Register Your Computer
When you first access the Knox network by connecting to the Internet on campus, you will be prompted to register your computer with the network. This will also check your computer for compliance with hardware requirements, anti-virus installation, and any required operating system updates.
NOTE: ALL devices you want to connect to the Knox network need to be registered separately: desktop systems, laptops, Internet-capable cell phones, and video game systems.
