Light Therapy and emWave Pro are available for students both by appointment and walk-in basis. Pet therapy is available for 15 minute sessions. See below for more information about the services and how to schedule.

Light Therapy

Light therapy is a treatment option that is geared towards individuals with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), but has been beneficial to those who have other conditions including; types of depression that do not occur seasonally, sleep disorders, and low activity levels.

You can read, play on your phone, or listen to your music while participating in light therapy. It is recommended to use light therapy in the morning.

Light therapy is NOT for everyone. Individuals who have symptoms of bipolar disorder, currently on prescription medications, a history of eye conditions, or currently under a physician's care should consult with a physician prior to beginning light therapy. It is important to make an informed decision as to whether it is appropriate for you. Prior to beginning treatment, you must review appropriate paperwork.

Light therapy was made available to Knox students by Student Senate.

Pet Therapy

Dogs are social and emotional beings. Current research indicates that our connection with animals, particular dogs, can be incredibly helpful emotionally, socially, and neurologically.

We offer pet therapy to our students as a way to reduce stress, increase rapport, help students become cognizant of emotional reactions and to support resiliency. Students find solace and calm when petting our certified pet therapy dog, Olive Yu Palmer. Schedule your pet therapy session today.

emWave Pro

Come learn how to monitor your emotional state through regulating your heart rate! The emWave Pro is a tool that helps promote a calm, yet alert emotional state. To do this, it measures the variability in your heart rate and gives you visual and auditory feedback. Through practicing with the games and visualizers, you will be training your body to improve emotional resiliency, reduce stress, and more.

EmWave also offers personal use devices. If you decide you like it, you can purchase one as well!
