The Kleine Center for Community Service manages a wide range of engagement opportunities, including volunteer service, charitable activities, and community outreach designed for students, faculty, and staff at Knox College. Each term the Kleine Center holds a Day of Service to connect the Knox community with our Galesburg community partners, sponsored by the Mary Filosa Brown Endowed Memorial Fund for Community Service.

Volunteer projects coordinated with the Center fall into two categories:

  • Short term: Volunteers are needed to assist with a short term event or community goal. Examples of these types of events include students' participation in Special Olympics Polar Plunge or Christmas in Action.
  • Long term: The Center collaborates with a local organization to identify and share resources to develop long-term and sometimes co-curricular projects. Examples of these types of partnerships include students' participation in the Nielson Elementary Reading Buddies program.
