Todd Receives Prestigious Scholarship for Study Abroad

Kathryn Todd

Knox College student Kathryn Todd has been selected for the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program and will study abroad for the 2013-14 academic year through Knox's program in Barcelona, Spain.

Todd, who is from Chicago, Illinois, will be a junior in the fall. She is majoring in Spanish.

Through the Gilman Scholarship Program, more than 2,000 scholarships of up to $5,000 were awarded recently to U.S. citizen undergraduates planning to study abroad.

Award recipients are chosen by a competitive selection process. The award may be used to defray costs associated with study abroad, such as international airfare, program tuition, and room and board.

According to the Gilman Scholarship website, the program "aims to support students who have been traditionally underrepresented in study abroad, including but not limited to, students with high financial need, community college students, students in underrepresented fields such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities."

The Gilman Scholarship program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, and it is administered by the Institute of International Education.
