Knox Theatre Presents "Rapture, Blister Burn"

Trading places? Career vs. "stay-at-home"

Knox College students rehearse "Rapture, Blister, Burn" performed May 13-16, 2015.

Knox College Theatre presents "Rapture, Blister, Burn" by Gina Gionfriddo at 7:30 p.m., May 13-16, Harbach Theatre, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, on the Knox campus in Galesburg. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and Knox College alumni, and are available at the door starting one hour before each performance.

A finalist for the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in Drama, Gionfriddo's play is a multigenerational examination of women and changing attitudes toward feminism, marriage, and success. Directed by Jeff Grace, associate professor of theatre, the play depicts two former college classmates, one a flourishing academic and the other a stay-at-home mom, who reunite decades after their college years to discover that each covets the other's life.

"The play reveals the struggle to reconcile the principles of feminist theory with individual aspirations," said the Grace. "The women realize that the pursuit of happiness is more challenging than it seems."
