Students Immerse Themselves in Taiwanese History and Culture during Faculty-Led Trip

During the fall term and winter break, nine Knox students participated in an immersive travel course that explored the culture and history of Taiwan.

Immersive Taiwan: Culture, History, and Identity were faculty-led travel courses that provided in-class learning about Taiwan before students spent two weeks exploring the country. During the fall term, students learned about Taiwan's background, history, and culture while brainstorming project ideas.

After the fall term, the students traveled with Weihong Du, associate professor and chair of the Asian studies program from November 24 to December 10, to explore the country while working on research projects.

“It was eye-opening learning about parts of Taiwanese society and the political history of Taiwan,” studio art major Zöe Grigoroff ’27 said. “We met weekly and had readings on Taiwan. It was really rich, learning about the historical figures. There was a lot of freedom in the course because we could pursue our research interests and gain a general understanding of Taiwan’s place in the world and its history.”
