Rosenfeld Awarded Jentel Artist Residency Fellowship

Natania Rosenfeld, associate professor of English at Knox College, has been awarded a fellowship by the Jentel Artist Residency Program. The program brings together an elite group of just six artists -- two writers and four visual artists -- for four weeks at the Jentel Foundation facility in the Piney Creek Valley of Wyoming.

Rosenfeld will attend the residency this summer. "I plan to work on a novel about a Polish gentile couple who hide two Jews in their home during World War II," she said. "It's an ambitious project that spans from World War II and the Holocaust, to post-war Poland in the 1990s and early 2000s."

Rosenfeld is the author of the book "Outsiders Together: Virginia and Leonard Woolf." She also has published poetry and literary criticism, and is a consulting/contributing editor of "The American Poetry Review."

Rosenfeld has received residency fellowships from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, as well as a Summer Stipend from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and a seminar participation grant from the United States Holocaust Museum.

The 80-acre Jentel site, about 20 miles from Sheridan, Wyoming, includes a working cattle ranch. The Jentel Artists' Residency Program is supported by the Jentel Foundation.

A member of the Knox faculty since 1998, Rosenfeld received her bachelor's degree at Bryn Mawr College and her Ph.D at Princeton University.

Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 47 states and 48 countries. Knox's 'Old Main' is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
