Listen, Learn from Brazilian Guitarist Workshop, Concert

Winter Jazz Series workshop, concert sponsored by Galesburg Community Foundation, Stellyes Center for Global Studies

Luciano Antonio

Brazilian singer and guitarist Luciano Antonio presents two free public events at Knox College on Saturday, January 11. The events are the first in the Winter Jazz Series, co-sponsored by grants from the Galesburg Community Foundation and the Stellyes Center for Global Studies.

Antonio will lead a free percussion workshop at 4 p.m. in Jay Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts, and will give a performance at 7:30 p.m. in Kresge Hall.

The workshop will show how to play Brazilian percussion instruments, including the drums, shakers and bells. No musical experience or background is required.

Antonio's work as a guitarist and singer showcases a contemporary jazz interpretation of traditional Brazilian folk music. A native of rural southern Brazil, he is a graduate of University of Missouri-Kansas City and performs throughout the Chicago area, including Brasil Fest Chicago. His debut recording, "Vida De Artista" (An Artist's Life), was released in 2011.
