Knox College Theatre Presents Shakespeare's Richard III

Knox College Theatre presents Shakespeare's Richard III, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22 through Saturday, Feb. 25, in Harbach Theatre. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and Knox College alumni, free to all students with school ID and free to Knox College students, faculty and staff. Tickets are available at the door one hour before each performance or by advanced reservation at 309-341-7472.

"The death of Richard III in battle, in 1485, is the culmination of 30 years of gruesome murder, intrigue, and English civil war," said the director, Elizabeth Carlin Metz, Smith V. Brand Endowed Chair of Theatre.

"Thousands of ordinary people and soldiers died, and though there were numerous, vicious players in this saga, history offers up no one more deadly than Richard, Duke of Gloucester," Carlin-Metz said. "Richard's ruthless craving for power was driven by a prodigious intellect corrupted by rapacious amorality. He stopped at nothing because he understood what it takes to get and wield power. Not much has changed in 550 years."
