Venture Boldly
Local educators are invited to submit course proposals for Knox College 4 Kids 2013. The program for students in grades three through eight will be offered June 17 through June 28 on the Knox campus in Galesburg, Illinois.
In 2012, more than 260 children participated in more than 40 courses in the humanities, physical and social sciences, fine arts, languages, and mathematics.
"Last year's student body was the most diverse in the program's history," said Jason Helfer, associate professor of education and co-director of Knox College 4 Kids. "Courses are designed to engage high-achieving students, as well as serving as an entryway into higher education for many children of color and those from low-socio-economic-status backgrounds who, in the future, might be the first in their families to attend college."
All course proposals should be geared toward third through eighth grade students. The deadline is Friday, February 22.
In addition to the morning session, consisting of three classes for grades three through eight, Knox College 4 Kids also offers a special program in literature, art, music, science and mathematics for first and second grade students.
Information is available via email (college4kids@knox.edu) or phone (341-7500).
