Knox College for Kids Seeks Course Proposals

Knox College's "College for Kids" program is currently soliciting course proposals from local educators interested in teaching in the two-week-long summer academic enrichment program. The courses for students who have completed grades four through eight will be held June 11 through June 22 on the Knox campus in Galesburg, Illinois. The deadline for course proposals is March 16. Applications for students will be distributed in local schools in early April.

The program was created by Knox in 1975 to offer summer enrichment for high achieving area children. Courses have been offered in art, science, mathematics, languages, literature, music and history. Students typically enroll in three hour-long classes, which are held weekday mornings during the two-week program.

"College for Kids is now part of the programming of Knox's Department of Educational Studies," said Lawrence Breitborde, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College. "In addition, the College will award summer internships to Educational Studies students, who will assist at College for Kids. This will serve to both strengthen College for Kids and provide additional opportunities for Knox students."

More information and course proposal forms are available on the Knox website www.knox.edu/college4kids.xml, by calling the College for Kids hotline at 309 341-7500, or by sending an e-mail message to <college4kids@knox.edu>.
