At Knox, 25 members of the Class of 2021 are legacies, or students who are following a relative to Knox.

Julianna Turnquist Underwood '63 was happy to move her granddaughter, Anna Neubauer, into her home for the next four years, with the help of Neubauer's parents, brother, and family dog, a collie named Kasey.

"I'm just full of pleasure today—to be here and help Anna unpack in Post Hall, where I lived 54 years ago," commented Underwood, who was one of the first residents to live in the hall after it was built.

She wants her granddaughter to have a wide-ranging experience at Knox, and advised her to go to lectures, concerts, and student plays. Underwood's uncle, aunt, mother, sister, and brother are all Knox alumni, with graduation years ranging from 1913 to 1950.

"My grandmother told me about the fun times at Knox and the funny thing about Lincoln climbing through the window of Old Main," said Neubauer. "I want to get to know the campus better, and I've heard Flunk Day is fun."

Lucinda Sumner's mother, Alice Nighswonger ‘92, made sure her daughter left home with plenty of photographs of friends and family.

"It's a very good day," said Nighswonger. "I didn't pester her to come to this school, even though I wanted to. I just wanted her to make a good choice, and, of course, she made the best choice."

"I like the programs the school offers and the different things I can be a part of," commented Sumner. "Knox has a great science program, which I love. This is what I've been looking for."

Legacy students joined almost 400 first-year and transfer students to become a part of the Knox community on Thursday, September 7, 2017.
