International Pre-Orientation Program

Knox's International Pre-Orientation Program (IPOP) will be September 5-6, 2017. All new international students who will enter the U.S. on a visa are required to attend IPOP, and should arrive to Knox on September 4. During IPOP, you'll have a chance to recover from jetlag, get items you may not have been able to pack, open a bank account, purchase a cell phone, and begin learning about what to expect in a U.S. college classroom. You'll also meet your new classmates and current students, as well as learn more about Knox and Galesburg. Following IPOP, international students will participate in the One Community orientation for all new students. Transportation to campus from local airports, train, and bus stations will be available.

Permanent residents and U.S. citizens living abroad are also welcome to attend IPOP, and should arrive to Knox on September 4 if attending. Please contact the Office of International Student Services if you would like to attend.

Intensive English Language Program

International students whose first language is not English are also invited to take part in an Intensive English Language Program from August 20 to September 3, and should arrive to Knox on August 19. Learn more about this program, including fees and how to register.

Online Pre-Departure Question & Answer Session

The Office of International Student Services (OISS) will host an Online Pre-Departure Question & Answer session on Saturday, July 29 at 8:00 a.m. U.S. Central Time (convert to your time here). Please join us for a brief presentation about getting to campus, insurance, banking, cell phones, and much more. Following the presentation, OISS will be available to answer any questions you have about starting your education at Knox. We encourage parents and other interested family members to join us, too. Click here to join us for this session. Our slideshow is available here for you to download.

What to Bring

Your residence hall room will be furnished with a bed, desk, chair, and a chest of drawers. Since space in your luggage will be limited, there will probably be many things like bedding, toiletries, and other necessities that you aren't able to bring. We will provide you with a set of bed sheets and a towel to get you started, and we will visit local shopping centers during IPOP. Our campus Share Shop is also an excellent place to find supplies for your dorm room.

Although the climate in Galesburg is generally considered mild, there are four distinct seasons, and extreme variations in temperature do occur. In the summer, the weather may be hot and sunny with temperatures between 65F (18C) and 100F (38C). In winter, Galesburg typically receives snow, and the temperature may vary from 20F (-6C) to 60F (16C). You may need to purchase winter clothing if you're from a warm climate. You'll have an opportunity to buy clothing for winter in Galesburg and surrounding areas.
