What is Smart Start?

Smart Start prepares you to launch into Summer Advising, which runs June 18-July 2. Sure, there is a lot to learn about Knox, but Smart Start will ease you into it. On Thursday, June 12, 2025, all new students must attend an online informational session to help them prepare to meet their academic advisors in the following weeks.

Informational sessions will provide an overview of what academic advising is and help you navigate all of the options in front of you. Sessions will include opportunities to learn about:

    • What is Academic Advising?
    • Course Preferences for Fall Term
    • Pre-Professional Programs
    • Arrival in Fall and New Student Orientation
    • Academic Success Programs

Smart Start will explain how to prepare for your summer advising meetings and assist you in crafting a course preference plan before you meet with your academic advisor for Fall registration. For first-year students, your one-on-one meetings with your advisor will happen sometime between Wednesday, June 18th and Wednesday, July 2nd.
