We look forward to welcoming you to the SPARK Program. You will move onto campus on Friday, September 3, between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. You will find information about housing, move-in, and testing procedures below.
Arrival and Testing Protocol
All students will be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival; those who are unvaccinated and those with approved medical and religious exemptions will be tested twice weekly on an ongoing basis. All students must remain masked both indoors and outdoors until they receive their first negative test result. This policy applies to students regardless of living situation. Students living off campus must be tested before they can engage in any on-campus activities (including the start of classes).
Arrival COVID-19 testing will take place in the T. Fleming Fieldhouse. Knox College uses an RT-PCR saliva test. Please come for your COVID test during your assigned arrival time frame. You do not need to make an appointment. Prior to arriving for your test, you should avoid drinks, food, smoking, nasal sprays, teeth cleaning, and chewing gum for at least 60 minutes before sample collection. Test results should come to you by email in 1-2 days.
Key Pick-up
Residence Hall and room keys will be available from Campus Safety at the T. Fleming Fieldhouse during arrival COVID-19 testing.
Masking on Campus
All students must remain masked at all times both indoors and outdoors until their first negative test is recorded. After the first negative test, campus-wide mask rules apply. Masks are required indoors in campus buildings, except in a student’s own residential living space (room and suite area) and while eating. In most cases, masks are not required outdoors. Please see the Knox Together web page for additional details.
Housing and Move-in Process
You can confirm your housing assignment by accessing your MyHousing portal at My.Knox.edu. If you have any specific housing needs, please send them to Jake McLean, assistant dean for campus life, at jrmclean@knox.edu. If you need assistance moving back onto campus, please limit the number of helpers to only those essential for move-in. Anyone assisting with move-in must wear masks at all times and limit the time inside the residence hall. This will promote physical distancing in hallways, stairwells, and suite areas.
Before You Leave Home
You and your guests are highly encouraged to practice good hygiene, avoid large group settings, and monitor your health closely for 14 days prior to traveling back to campus and, while traveling, are expected to maintain physical distancing, wear face masks, practice frequent handwashing, and follow all applicable CDC guidelines. Please check yourselves for any COVID-19 symptoms prior to coming to campus. If you are feeling ill, let us know and we will reschedule your arrival date.
We know living on campus is a very important part of your Knox experience, and appreciate your willingness to take on the shared responsibility of caring for ourselves and each other with adaptability and generosity of spirit. If you have any questions, please direct them to campuslife@knox.edu.
