Your First Academic Advising Appointment
By July 15, your academic advisor will email you at your Knox email address to set up a meeting (you will not receive that notification at your personal or parent email address). During this meeting, you'll get to know each other, find out which First-Year Preceptorial (FP) course you will be taking, and choose the rest of your courses for fall term.
Here’s what you need to do to prepare for that meeting:
- Ensure you have a) taken placement exams and b) sent your test scores (AP, IB, GCE) and final high school and/or college transcripts to admission@knox.edu. Your advisor will use this information to determine the appropriate level of coursework you should take.
- Review the 2022 Fall Term Course Schedule (pdf). First-year students typically take 100-level and 200-level courses. You can learn more about courses by looking at the course descriptions under the Departments and Courses of Study page.
- Jot down a list of courses that look interesting to you to discuss in your meeting. Some courses may already be full or offered at a time that conflicts with your FP course, so while you will only be registering for two courses, your list should include some additional options. *Note: Your FP course and time cannot be changed.
