Chad Simpson, associate professor and chair of English, recently published two short stories. “Notes Toward a Story Called Quadriplegic” appears in the Spring 2020 issue of Sou’wester. “Notes Toward a Story Called Streetlight Superman” has just been released in Issue 8 of Story and is excerpted on the magazine’s website.
Jonah Rubin, assistant professor of anthropology-sociology, recently published “Exhuming Dead Persons: Forensic Science and the Making of Post-Fascist Publics in Spain” in Cultural Anthropology.
Andy Hertel, associate professor of psychology, has two recent publications of note. “An investigation of the relationship between identifying as a smoker and urges to smoke among young adult combustible cigarette smokers” was published in 2020 in Psychology of Addictive Behaviors and was co-authored with Alexander Sokolovsky of Brown University and Robin Mermelstein of the University of Illinois at Chicago. “Investment in drinking identity is associated with alcohol consumption and risk of alcohol use disorder” was published in 2019 in Addictive Behaviors and was co-authored with Kirsten Peterson and Kristen Lindgren of the University of Washington.
Sara O’Brien, associate professor of psychology, contributed to the Gizmodo column “Giz Asks,” answering the question, “How Do I Stop Tapping My Foot, Biting My Nails, or Twirling My Hair?”
Steve Cohn, Charles W. and Arvilla S. Timme Chair in Economics, has published an essay, “Resisting Sinophobia and a New Cold War: Protecting the Free Flow of Ideas and Economic Health of Higher Education”, on the website of the Political Economy Research Institute of the University of Massachusetts.
Robin Ragan, professor of modern languages, published “Going All in to Help Asylum Seekers at the U.S./ Mexico Border” in the July/August edition of The American Translators Association Chronicle.
Emeritus Professor of Psychology Tim Kasser published “Goals for Good: Testing an intervention to reduce materialism in three European countries” in the European Journal of Positive Psychology. The article was co-authored with colleagues from University of Surrey, UK, and Royal Holloway University of London, UK.
