To the Knox Community (sent on behalf of Senior Staff)

This past weekend, the Governor released new guidance in the Reopening Illinois phased plan. This new information joins guidance specifically for higher education produced by the American College Health Association and the CDC.

In order to allow the College to re-open for the summer in observance with these various documents, the remote work arrangements currently in place at Knox for faculty and staff have been extended through Sunday, July 5. This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety and well-being of all Knox employees, as well as the students who remain here on campus.

We are currently developing a phased reopening workplace plan that ensures that we return to campus in a safe manner. This plan includes the following:

  1. Procurement and distribution of cloth masks to any employee who needs them, with additional PPE provided to employees as appropriate;
  2. Procurement and placement of additional hand sanitizer stations;
  3. Analysis of departmental work spaces to ensure that recommended social distancing can be achieved and to determine whether other protective measures (e.g. plexiglass sneeze guards or travel flow restrictions) are needed;
  4. A re-review of cleaning protocols for offices, work spaces, and common areas;
  5. Development of a protocol for monitoring employee health;
  6. Development of more comprehensive policies and procedures to address potentially more permanent and/or flexible remote work arrangements.

We will keep you posted as we move through June as to our assessment and readiness status for a phased plan of movement back to campus after the July 4 holiday weekend. In the meantime, please do stay safe.
