Commencement Weekend May 31-June 2, 2019
Knox faculty and staff are here to help you and your family prepare for the big day. This page will guide you through the essentials—from getting your cap and gown to finalizing paperwork with the Registrar.
Graduates participating in the Commencement ceremony are required to wear a cap & gown.
Graduates have until March 15 to order a new cap & gown from Oak Hall Graduation Services at no charge. Graduates who do not place a gown order by March 15 may reserve a clean, previously worn gown from Knox Sustainability, along with a new cap & tassel.
NOTE: There are a limited number of gowns available, and any graduate who does not order a gown or reserve a sustainability gown will be required to purchase a new gown from the bookstore before graduation.
Students will pick up their pre-ordered caps & gowns at the Almost There Fair on April 16.
Commencement rehearsal will happen at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, on the South Lawn of Old Main. It is mandatory if you plan to participate in the Commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 2. The severe weather location is T. Fleming Fieldhouse.
There is no official dress code for the Commencement ceremony. However, we recommend dressing appropriately for the occasion, including footwear. You will be walking through grass and then across a stage in your gown, so please wear shoes that you will not fall, slip, or trip in.
Graduates will line up at 9:15 a.m. on Commencement day in the lobby of CFA. The severe weather location is T. Fleming Fieldhouse.
A picnic lunch will be served after the ceremony on the South Lawn. Reservations are required. Graduates with reservations receive a free lunch. Family and guests will need to purchase a ticket. Tickets will be available for purchase in April.
Commencement memorabilia—from class rings, diploma frames, and graduation announcements—are available for purchase from Oak Hall Graduation Services.
Personal photography is allowed. In addition, a professional photographer will capture the moment you receive your diploma. When you attend the Almost There Fair, you will provide contact information to the photographer, so they can send proofs of your graduation photos in the mail.
Knox College Communications will live stream the event via YouTube. A link will be posted here when the livestream is available.
Be sure to check with the Registrar's office to make sure they have accurate records of credits earned and requirements completed.
Please check out of your residence hall/apartment by 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 2. Keys must be returned to Campus Security.
