Commencement Weekend June 2-4, 2017

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation!

Knox faculty and staff are here to help you and your family prepare for the big day. This page will guide you through the essentials -- from getting your cap and gown to finalizing paperwork with the Registrar.

Caps and Gowns

Caps and gowns are required for graduates walking in the ceremony. Caps & gowns were availabe for pre-order from With Honors Graduation Services until March 24. Students picked up their pre-ordered caps & gowns at the Almost There Fair on April 19, 2017. Students who have not yet ordered a gown or reserved one in from sustainability, can purchase a cap & gown in the bookstore after April 26. (Prices will be higher, and the selection more limited.)

Caps & gowns are made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles, saving an average of 23 plastic bottles (per cap/gown) from the landfill.

Graduates who borrowed a gown from the sustainability office will need to purchase a cap & tassel from the bookstore after April 26, 2017.

Commencement rehearsal will happen at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, on the South Lawn of Old Main. It is mandatory if you plan to participate in the Commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 4. The severe weather location is T. Fleming Fieldhouse.

Dress Code

There is no official dress code for the Commencement ceremony. However, we recommend dressing appropriately for the occasion, including footwear. You will be walking through grass and then across a stage in your gown, so please wear shoes that you will not fall, slip, or trip in.

Procession and Lineup

Graduates will line up at 9:15 a.m. on Commencement day in the lobby of CFA. The severe weather location is T. Fleming Fieldhouse.

Picnic Lunch

A picnic lunch will be served after the ceremony on the South Lawn. Tickets available now. Graduates who make a reservation will receive a free lunch. Family and guests will need to purchase a ticket.

Announcements and Memorabilia

Commencement memorabilia -- from class rings, diploma frames, and graduation announcements -- is available for purchase from the Knox College bookstore.

Photography and Video

Personal photography is allowed. In addition, a professional photographer will capture the moment you receive your diploma. If you attended the Almost There Fair on April 19, you provided information to the photographer, so you will receive a proof of your graduation photos in the mail.

Knox College Communications will livestream the event. A link will be posted here when the livestream is available.

Ready to Graduate?

Be sure to check with the Registrar's office to make sure they have accurate records of credits earned and requirements completed. You must be checked in before you will be added to the list of graduates.

Residence Hall Check-Out

Please check out of your residence hall/apartment by 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4. Keys must be returned to Campus Security.
