As a cultural club and community, Aaina feels that the narrative of international students and domestic students of colour has been influenced by sensationalised stereotypes and generalisations. Within the past political year, this narrative has been even more stretched. We want to use our platform to recognise and represent stories that detach from an Americanised and romanticised narrative. To achieve this, we will be launching a project this Winter Term, which will aim to document these experiences.
We our looking for volunteers for the project who should be comfortable in engaging and talking about their experiences, being recorded using audio/visual tools and having an exposure of their recordings to social media. A choice to keep your identity anonymous will be present. Although we would like to adapt a similar format in our project, we are open to volunteers choosing their own way to express their identity. The project is currently in progress and will be in continuation until the start of February. Volunteers will be needed for a maximum of 45 minutes - 1 hour slots over this entire period. Additionally, it will be mandatory for the volunteers to attend at least one Aaina general meeting which happens every Wednesday at 5 pm in Alumni Hall 219.
Information Sessions for the project are:
Monday, 22th January, 5pm – Alumni Hall 219
Wednesday, 24th January, 5 pm – Alumni Hall 219
