Our Time Inside: A Cumulative Presentation of the Pilot Knox-Henry Hill Class is an event showcasing outside students' experiences in Professor Leanne Trapedo Sims' Life Writing as Social Engagement course. During the Spring term, students engaged in critical thinking about the prison system and racial injustice, as well as contemplated how writers write and perform their lives through different mediums: poetry, memoir, and art.
What made this course unique is that it took place in a Knox Classroom and a classroom at Henry Hill Correctional Facility. Inside men incarcerated at Henry Hill Correctional facility participated in these conversations--not as guest speakers--but as fellow students.
At the event on Tuesday, May 23rd in the Trustees Room from 4-6 pm, Knox students will provide a personal account of their journey, as well as share poetry written by the men at Henry Hill. The Q&A at 5 pm is an opportunity for students and faculty to ask questions about the Inside-Out Program to the Knox students who spent their term learning alongside their fellow classmates on the Inside.
