Mentored by folk singer and historian Hayrik Mouradian, she graduated from the Department of Vocal Music at the Arno Babajanian School of Music and the Yerevan State Pedagogical Institute. Her performances are often broadcast on Armenian National Radio and presented at traditional music festivals around the world, including the 2002 Smithsonian Folklife Festival produced in association with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Project. Her CD, Armenian Lullabies (Traditional Crossroads), was praised by the New York Times as “the best Armenian recording worldwide.”
Hasmik Harutyunyan’s visit is made possible thanks to generous support from the Knox College Music Department, the Eleanor Stellyes Center for Global Studies, and the Greig-Post Fund.
