Nova Singers Presents: The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass
Nova Singers, under the direction of Dr. Laura Lane, presents two performances of A World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass on Saturday, April 9, 7:30pm at First Lutheran Church in Galesburg and Sunday, April 10, 4:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport.
This program is a unique collaboration between Nova Singers and professional bluegrass band Monroe Crossing. Each group will perform individually then take the stage together to present Minneapolis composer Carol Barnett’s acclaimed new work A World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass, a unique piece that combines traditional choral music with folk and bluegrass styles.
Dr. Lane talks about the program: “Every year, the Singers have been asking me to bring back Monroe Crossing and do the Bluegrass Mass again. They are so happy while rehearsing this piece—their eyes are shining! I’m serious when I say to each of you Nova fans that you do not want to miss this event. The incredibly talented members of Monroe Crossing, playing fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin and bass, will be featured in their own set, so you’ll get to hear each one of them. Then, when Nova Singers joins them on stage, you’ll hear the remarkably creative, joyful and fun Bluegrass Mass. We promise that you will be smiling when you walk out of the concert and I bet you’ll be smiling for hours after!”
Nova Singers, a professional vocal ensemble under the direction of Dr. Laura Lane, hopes to share our musical soul with you. Nova Singers is known for the beauty, charm, sincerity and emotional power the singers impart to their music.
