Lecture: "The Dead End of Dignity: Should Progressives Embrace the Supreme Court's Dignity Jurisprudence at the Core of LGBTQ Rights Recognition?"

Please join the Political Science Department for a virtual lecture with Professor Stephen Engel, Professor of Politics at Bates College. Professor Engel will discuss how the Supreme Court has developed a jurisprudence of equal dignity in the context of LGBT rights, and will offer some discussion of why this may actually be a troubling development for progressives and quite promising for the aims of the conservative legal movement.

Professor Engel's lecture will be based on themes from his forthcoming book Disrupting Dignity: Rethinking Power and Progress in LGBTQ Lives (NYU Press, 2021 with Timothy S. Lyle), He is also the author of three other books including Fragmented Citizens: The Changing Landscape of Gay and Lesbian Lives.
