common pulse blurb
common pulse was founded in 2014 by 18 Chicago singers and director Lydia Lane Stout. now around 30 singers, we are a professional vocal ensemble dedicated to collaboration and innovation, working alongside artists and activists to create more open and connected communities in our beloved city. common pulse offers a unique crossroads of excellent musicianship and intentional community building. a singer driven ensemble, we engage in open and honest conversations with one another around our personal stories and relate it to the music that we sing.

a note from the director
conversations about our changing world are intensifying. in the face of this intensity, I see people who choose to respond with action, weeping, self-care, music, art, protesting, and working in our established systems to create change for the good.

I programmed this season based on reflection of my own responses to our troubled times. in order to use my life to make a positive difference, I must cultivate my deep inner resilience. along with the singers of common pulse, I sense how ready we all are to have open and honest conversations about building our sources of support and strength, both individually and in community, and to move toward collective action.

wings is a program about the resilience we find inside of us as we face the big questions. exploring stories of human resilience through music and spoken reflection, wings reminds us that we may choose to fly and to sing, even when the bough beneath us breaks.
Sponsored by Tim Pahel and the Galesburg Community Chorus
