Hello, and welcome to: Reasons why Improv is Awesome! (presented by the mildly biased Knox College Improv Club):

1. We have a mission! And a schedule! Knox College Improv Club is a non-audition group devoted to helping people of all ability levels improve improv skills, which are valuable both on and off stage. We put on two shows a term. We meet on Wednesdays and Sundays from 9-11 p.m. in the lobby of the Ford Center for Fine Arts, plus the occasional nonsense-only Fun Friday rehearsals from 4-5 on (surprise!) Fridays.

2. Improv is so much fun. At the Knox Improv Club, we work with both short-form improv, the kind of improv made popular by shows like Whose Line is It, Anyway? and long-form improv, the kind of improv that's still insane but allows for even more development of meaningful characters and relationships.

If you want to know how fun our rehearsals are, just look at the zany quotes we take down every rehearsal and publish on our Facebook or Instagram feeds. Twice a term, one of those lucky quotes becomes the title of an improv show! Examples include: "Goldfish, the Snack That Murders Back," "Insect Love is Pain," "The Easter Bunny's Name is Wanda," and, most recently, "Speak Softly and Carry a Tiny Hand."

We are fun people. We hang out together in the Gizmo (Knox's reigning source of fried foods) after every nighttime rehearsal, we have pre-show Improv dinners in the Hard Knox Cafe, and we have other crazy events like hide-and-seek in large, dark buildings. We are not a cult. We swear it on the crown of King Bob.

3. Improv is life. Here are some skills we learn at improv: Have fun. Take risks. Say yes to things, treat whoever you're with like they are very important, and always listen carefully. You may recognize these improv skills, as they are often advertised under the name "life skills." College is about learning together how to play the game of life, and we are honored to contribute how we can.

If you're interested in knowing more about our shows, our rehearsals, or really anything at all, please reach out to the club through our contact information, our Facebook, or our Instagram.
