McDonald's work has been shown widely, including major exhibits at the Chicago Cultural Center, Philadelphia African American Museum, Hyde Park Art Center, New Orleans Museum of Art, and Catherine Edelman Gallery. He has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards and was the 2018 Rauschenberg Residency Fellow.
