He first traveled to Cuba in 1995 and has returned to the island 14 times over the past two decades to conduct ethnographic research. Knox alumni and friends visited the Southwest desert with Professors Godsil '76 and Gilbert and experienced the picturesque landscape featured in the Knox Magazine story about Professor Godsil's advanced photography course, "The S.W. Desert Landscape Photography Workshop." Professor Gilbert presented two evening lectures on the history and culture of the ancient Puebloan peoples.
In March, members of the Knox College community traveled to Cuba to experience its culture, interact with its people, and gain insights into the life of writer Ernest Hemingway, who lived there for 20 years. Here's what alumni had to say about the trip:
