2005 Service Award Winners

J. William McVey '66, Advancement VolunteerJ. William McVey '66
Bill McVey's commitment to volunteerism can be traced back to his days on the Knox campus. As Student Senate President, he provided leadership to Knox students during the heady times of the 1960s. His dedication to Knox and willingness to give of his time and resources has remained steadfast throughout the years.

  • Bill supports the College's fundraising efforts as a volunteer for the Office of Advancement, serving as Class Agent for six years and as a member of the Knox Fund Steering Committee for three. He and classmate Doug Bayer stepped forward to help create a fund in memory of fellow alumnus Glenn Nagel. When fully funded, the Nagel Fund will provide assistance for student research.
  • Bill provided leadership for the last three Reunions of the Class of '66 and has volunteered to co-chair his 40th Reunion. His involvement with Alumni Relations also includes serving one term as an at-large member of the Alumni Council and working on the Service Award Selection Committee.
  • A leader in his community in the field of adult and continuing education, Bill earned the Outstanding Service Medallion and the Outstanding Educator Award. He was a dedicated member of the Park Ridge Public Library Board of Trustees for 15 years.

Jerome A. Tatar '71, Admission & Advancement SupporterJerome A. Tatar '71
Jerry Tatar knows what it means to "keep in touch." As correspondent for the Class of '71, he has faithfully provided a column to the Class Notes section of the alumni magazine since his graduation.  He has been described as a volunteer who is willing to take on challenging tasks to help Knox reconnect with alumni.

  • Jerry served his class as reunion chair for his 20th and 30th year reunions. As a member of the Knox Fund Steering committee, he assists the Office of Advancement in seeking contributions from lapsed donors of the Class of '71. Jerry is an active member of the Chicago Knox Club Executive Board.
  • He has helped the admission effort by representing Knox at college fairs and returned to campus to sit on an alumni panel that discussed legal and political careers with current students.
  • Off campus Jerry helps the Career Development Center publicize their annual internship fair by spreading the word to fellow members of the Oak Brook Association of Commerce and Industry.
  • He served on the Board and as Chairman of the Greater Oak Brook Chamber of Commerce. Jerry volunteers with a children's residential camp, as an instructor in a high school leadership training course and as a baseball coach. During the last election, he volunteered in Ohio on behalf of one of the Presidential candidates.
Ann Feldman Perille '76, Admission & Advancement VolunteerAnn Feldman Perille '76
Local alumni volunteers are the key to the success of any regional Knox Club. Ann Feldman Perille '76, leader of the Colorado Knox Club, shines as one of Knox's most successful regional alumni club leaders. Her efforts to build a strong club began in 1990 and continue today.
  • Ann has coordinated more than 30 alumni events, always keeping in mind the need to appeal to a wide variety of interests. Denver alumni gather for cultural, educational and athletic events. With Ann's leadership, Colorado Knox Club members make a difference in their community by joining service projects such as raking leaves for the elderly or working the phone bank for the local PBS station.
  • She volunteers her time at college fairs and on the interview committee for the Colorado Alumni Scholarship. Ann coordinates the annual Student Send-Off Picnic, an opportunity for first-year and returning students from the area to meet alumni from all generations.
  • Ann is a current member of the Alumni Council and has served as a Class Agent and on the Class of '76 Reunion Committee. She gave the class speech at Homecoming Convocation the year of her 25th reunion.
