Caesar Akuetey

At Knox Since: 1994

Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures (French)

What would Akuetey be if not a professor? An outstanding fisherman. But the professors he studied under in Ghana and France inspired his career choice.

Why Knox?

I had the chance to teach in the Knox College program in Besancon in 1994, and the students I taught that year convinced me to apply to Knox College. The rest is history.

How would you describe academic life at Knox?

This is a place where teaching and learning really matter. Students and faculty continually learn from one another, both in and out of the classroom. This reciprocal nurturing of teaching, learning, and scholarship does not happen everywhere.

What are the essential qualities of a Knox student?

A Knox student wants to be challenged academically, is eager to learn, has a great imagination, and loves to discover the world and other cultures.

Do you have any advice for students who are considering studying at Knox?

Any young person who wants to study in a small liberal arts college that has its gate open to the world, enabling students to acquire meaningful and diverse experiences, should not hesitate to choose Knox College.
