Talk to an International Ambassador

Hometown: Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India

My first impression of Knox:
I have lived in big cities all my life-like, population over 21 million. Knox is such a calm and peaceful environment. People are so different and have very different views about the world, which is surprising and fascinating to see!

My first home at Knox:

I lived in Campbell 3 my first year. It was different at first, but it was nice to have a great RA [resident advisor] and my suitemates were good people.

Favorite Knox professor:
Definitely Joel Estes in his School and Society class, where I can just be myself. One time, he told us that he could do a magic trick, but he failed at it—that was fun to see!

Favorite classes:
PSYCH 100 Introduction to Psychology and EDUC201 School and Society

Hometowns: Berlin, Germany and Thessaloniki, Greece

Hello! My name is Elena, and I'd love to talk with you about my Knox experience.

My first home at Knox:
Conger-Neal (Quads). It was nice having people around the suite and telling each other how our day was. Kind of like summer camp.

Most memorable Knox experience:
My summer internship at Green Oaks. Working in the field with someone you otherwise only really see in an office space or in class is really cool and brings things out of context so much that it's just right!

What excites me most about Knox:
The number of new and exciting things I can start without needing prior experience

The best thing about Galesburg:
It's very bike-able!

Hometown: Lahore, Pakistan

Hello! My name is Arsalan! I'd love to talk with you about my Knox experience.

My first impression of Knox:
The campus was larger and more spread out than I expected it to be, and, since I came here in winter term, it was also much colder than I expected!

Most memorable conversation with a Knox professor:
I went to Professor Jaime Spacco to talk about computer hardware, we started talking about our countries and the conversation, which was supposed to be only 30 minutes long, went on for
two hours.

How Knox has surprised me:
I never thought I would have friends from so many different countries.

What I like about Galesburg:
Downtown Galesburg and Main Street are both very good places for finding really cool stuff that you can use for your dorm. The small businesses here give you a sense of a community and belonging, as they are very welcoming to everyone--and especially Knox students.

Hello! My name is Pam Dang. I'd love to talk with you about my Knox experience.

My first impression of Knox:
The friendly and vibrant feels

The coolest thing I've done at Knox:
Terpsichore and Tri-Delta

How life at Knox has surprised me:
I met amazing people, joined new clubs, and found my career path. I also love my study abroad experience.

The best thing about Galesburg:
The Beanhive (local coffee shop located just off campus)

Connect with me to hear more about Greek life (I'm a Tri-Delt), Terpsichore (the campus dance collective; they put on amazing shows), or what Knox is like if you're an international student.

Hometown: Nanjing, China

Hello! My name is Vela, and I'd love to talk with you about my Knox experience.

Where I lived during my first year:
I lived in Raub-Sellew. It was my first time sharing a suite with five other people. I was overwhelmed at the beginning, but we all got along with each other. I ended up becoming friends with one of my suite mates and we are living together this year in an apartment.

How Knox surprised me:
The professor-to-student ratio was even smaller than I expected. It's really nice to meet my professors outside of class.

Most memorable experience at Knox:
I was invited to a professor's house for the celebration of Chinese New Year. It was one of the best times I've had since I moved to America.

The coolest thing I've done at Knox:
I was able to explore almost everything I wanted to do at college, including joining the equestrian team and studying abroad in Denmark.

Connect with me to talk about what it was like moving from a huge city to a small campus, what I'm reading, and what I hope to do after graduation.

Hometown: Colombo, Sri Lanka

Hello! My name is Kusala Molligoda. I'd love to talk with you about my Knox experience.

My first home at Knox:
Seymour 3 was a special experience. I still am close to all my first-year suitemates, and some of us are even in the same fraternity!

Favorite class:
Managerial Finance was certainly an eye opener, as I was able to study companies value in great detail. Learning the intricacies of the market was compelling.

How Knox has surprised me:
Even now I'm surprised at the fact that people on campus are always willing to help you out whether you know them or not.

What I miss from home:
Definitely the food. Seafood is a rarity in Illinois.
