Hello! My name is Sophia Bowley. I'd love to talk with you about my Knox experience.
How I chose my major:
I took a few classes in other departments that I was interested in, but they never quite made me as happy or excited as my activities with Food Recovery Network here on campus, the reading and discussions in the environmental studies department, or the work for sustainability that I did back at home.
The Knox class I never expected to love:
First-Year Preceptorial: Human Rights. The topic seemed so daunting to address. However, quickly, I realized that my professor made the topic so engaging that I never dreaded the class. I always loved reading for discussions, writing for assignments, and exchanging ideas with my classmates and professor.
The Knox professor with whom you should absolutely take a class:
Professor Ben Farrer (environmental studies). He’s hilarious, he’s super easy to talk to, and his interests in political science and environmentalism have fascinating intersections in the classroom.
One surprisingly cool thing about Galesburg:
The jazz scene is crazy good here in Galesburg, which means that there is almost always some awesome music to listen to on campus or in town!
