Apply to Knox Now
Old Main seen through the leaves of a tree.

There are two important changes in the financial aid application process for 2017-18:

  1. You'll be able to submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as October 1, 2016, rather than waiting until January 1, 2017.
  2. When you complete your FAFSA for next year, it will be based on income and tax information from 2015 versus 2016.

How will the changes benefit me?

You'll benefit in these ways:

  • The FAFSA will ask for 2015 income and tax information, so your tax data will already be available. You won't need to estimate your tax information and then go back later to update your FAFSA.
  • Most students and parents will be able to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to automatically import tax information into the FAFSA.
  • You will receive your aid award earlier than in the past.

What does this mean for me?

If you plan to return to Knox for at least one term in 2017-18, you should apply for financial aid now.

There are two steps to apply for financial aid:

  1. Complete the FAFSA. It is strongly recommended that both students and parents use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool within the FAFSA to automatically import 2015 tax information to the FAFSA.
  2. Complete the Knox Financial Aid Application to be considered for grants, loans, and campus employment from Knox College.

When should I apply for financial aid?

If you are an Illinois resident, we strongly urge you to submit your FAFSA and Knox Financial Aid Application no later than November 1, 2016 to ensure you don't miss out on the State of Illinois MAP Grant.

For all others, we recommend you submit your FAFSA and Knox Financial Aid Application no later than January 1, 2017.

When to expect your award?

You can expect to receive your financial aid award in late spring. Due to State of Illinois funding uncertainty, notification could be later.
