ISA offers a facilitated direct enrollment opportunity to study at Mahidol University, Thailand. During this program, students enroll at Mahidol, where they take courses, primarily in English, with international and local students. Mahidol University provides course offerings in subjects such as biological sciences, business, chemistry, environmental science, film and television production, food science & technology, and more.
The on-site ISA staff at the study center offers students a source of security while they study abroad. The ISA office serves as a common meeting place and resource center, with a student lounge (air conditioned), cable TV and film library, high speed internet, printers, scanners and fax. There is a study area students can reserve for group assignments. Thai language tutoring sessions are available. The office has numerous maps, travel guides and cultural texts, and is located in the same complex as the student dormitory, very near the university campus.
Mahidol University was founded in 1889, making it the oldest educational institution in Thailand. Mahidol University's International College (MUIC) offers most of the university's international undergraduate programs. Accredited by the Thai Ministry of Education, MUIC provides a high standard of education, encouraging independent and analytical thinking. International students make up about 15% of Mahidol's 26,000 students. Popular areas of study at MUIC include film, animation, mathematics, food science, intercultural studies and languages, computer science and engineering, biological and environmental science, and business. The campus is 10 minutes away from both the ISA student housing and study center. MUIC offers many facilities and quiet areas for students to study: libraries, computer labs and gardens.
Bangkok is a huge metropolitan city with many districts, temples and monuments of great cultural and historical importance. Located on the western bank of the Chao Phraya River, Bangkok was once a small trading post and fishing village; it is now the one of the most dynamic and exciting cities in Southeast Asia. The traditional heritage of Thai Buddhist philosophy and culture remain strong. As the country's political, economic, spiritual and cultural hub, Bangkok is influential in the arts. Tourism is a major industry. Visitors to Bangkok will find not only cosmopolitan amenities and conveniences, but also distinctive Thai features of the traditional capital. The climate is largely tropical and characterized by monsoons.
The academic calendar is unusual - The winter term runs from the end of December to the middle of April, the spring term runs from the middle of April to the third week in July, the fall term from from early September to mid December. Students should expect to take four or five courses per term.
